Auxiliadora Prieto, SusPlast coordinator, participated in the final day of COP25-Chile-Madrid

On December 13, the final day of the 25th session of the Conferences of the Parties (COP 25) at IFEMA in Madrid, the SusPlast-CSIC platform was presented by CIB researcher Dr. Auxiliadora Prieto, its coordinator, in an Elevator Pitch event. This event, organized by the Vicepresidency of Research and Technology of CSIC (VICyT) under the title “We do research to reduce our footprint on the planet; Do you help us?” was held in the Dialogue Room of the Pavilion 1 in the publicly open Green Zone (from 12:00 to 13:15) and brought together researchers from different centers of CSIC and public stakeholders.

Dr. Auxiliadora Prieto presented the challenges and opportunities for the new platform to tackle the worldwide plastic pollution and recycling problem. The event counted with the participation of the coordinators of other thematic CSIC platforms from different institutes such as Xylella, Soilbio, Mobility2030, Flowbat and SosEcocir, as well as representatives from EDP, CEPSA, GMV and Sience Europe.

Additionally, the CIB PhD student Francisco Blanco, working in the group of Polymer Biotechnology, explained how he got engaged with science at CSICin the same session.

The UN Climate Change Conference COP 25 took place under the Presidency of the Government of Chile from December 2 to 13 at IFEMA-Madrid with logistical support from the Government of Spain. The inauguration was conducted by the President-designate for the conference Ms. Carolina Schmidt, Minister of Environment of Chile. The conference furthermore served to build ambition ahead of 2020, the year in which countries have committed to submit new and updated national climate action plans. Crucial climate action work will be taken forward in areas including finance, the transparency of climate action, forests and agriculture, technology, capacity development, loss and damage, indigenous population, cities, oceans and gender equality.
