On the occasion of the celebration, on February 11th, of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) has programmed throughout Spain multiple initiatives between February, 1st and 15th. The main campus of this institution in Madrid is participating in the commemoration with the placement of banderoles, as well as a series of videos that will be posted through the social networks of the institution, which make visible scientific women of the institution.
Among the researchers highlighted in this campaign is Dr. Auxiliadora Prieto, who leads the group of Polymer Biotechnology at the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas, focused on the design of bioplastics from industrial and urban waste in an attempt to implement more sustainable processes to reduce the problem of environmental contamination generated by the massive use of plastic materials derived from the petrochemical industry.
Unesco proclaimed in 2015 February 11th as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in order to inspire and promote women's participation in education, training and science and technology and recognize the critical role of girls and women in scientific and technological communities.
