The IV Edition of the Master in Molecular and Cellular Integrative Biology (MCIB) was inaugurated on October 14th, 2019 at the Center for Biological Research (CIB). Nine students join this 2019-2020 edition and will receive advanced training in cellular and molecular biology in a cutting-edge scientific environment.
The master's degree is the result of the alliance between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) to offer postgraduate programs. It is mainly taught at the CIB and has the collaboration of other CSIC centers, such as the Institute of Physical Chemistry “Rocasolano” (IQFR), the Institute of Food Science, Technology and Nutrition (ICTAN) and the National Centre for Biotechnology (CNB).
The opening session was chaired by Jesús Marco, Vice President of Research of the CSIC, Miguel Remacha, Vice Rector of Postgraduate and Research of the Menéndez Pelayo University, Enrique J. de la Rosa, Director of the CIB and Germán Rivas, coordinator of the master.
MCIB constitutes a pioneer training experience in CSIC centers. It is one of the few masters taught in English in the area of biology, and will allow students to integrate into a day-to-day research center and receive theoretical training in cutting-edge research through classes taught by active researchers at CSIC. In addition, they will have the opportunity to attend a cycle of frontier seminars and interact with prestigious scientists from all around the world. MCIB does not forget about other skills such as scientific writing or oral presentations, professional orientation and topics such as biostatistics, ethics, entrepreneurship, intellectual property, or dissemination by providing students with training in these areas through lectures and workshops.
The day ended with a presentation by Leticia Lucero, who shared with the new students her experience in the 2016-2017 academic year as a member of the first generation of MCIB graduate students.
