
Last Thursday, November 21st, the Spanish Association of Scientists, presided by Enrique De la Rosa, director of the CIB, celebrated its annual dinner in which the Award of Plaques of Honour is held every year.
One of the awarded people of this 22nd edition was María Jesús Martínez, head researcher (with Ángel T. Martínez) of the group Biotechnology for Lignocellulosic Biomass in the CIB and last director of the center. This prize was awarded to her "for her research of international relevance in the field of plant biomass and its wide impact on the industrial sector, as well as her intense outreach and management activity".
María del Carmen Risueño, researcher of the CIB now retired and vice president of the AEC Governing Council, presented María Jesús Martínez to the attendees at the event and reminded them why she deserves the award.
María Jesús expressed her gratitude with an emotional speech in which she reviewed her career from her start at Jaime Ferran Institute of Microbiology to her current position at the CIB and she highlighted the support of her family and CIB colleagues.
She received the award wrapped in a warm applause that later also received the rest of the awards of the night: Mas García Hernández, Research Professor at the ICMM and Scientific Director of the Arquímedes Contest; José Antonio López Guerrero, professor at the UAM and Director of Scientific Culture Department of the CBMSO; The Association of Women Researchers and Technologists; the journal UMH Sapiens and the company NIMGenetics.
