On December 14th, 2018 the donation contract was formalized in favor of the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas (CSIC), thus complying with the provision of Dª. Asunción Sastre Rodríguez, who left a legacy in favor of the Multiple Sclerosis Spanish Association (AEDEM-COCEMFE) that should be used for the investigation of multiple sclerosis (MS).
The 49,000 euros of the donation will go to the research project "The eye as diagnostic window of the brain" (EYEBRAIN), which aims to deepen the scientific knowledge of MS, and the possible quantification by optical eye tomography of the remyelination exerted after a specific pharmacological treatment.
EYEBRAIN is led by Dr. Ana Martínez, principal investigator of the Translational Medicinal and Biological Chemistry group, with the participation of Dr. Enrique de la Rosa, responsible in the CIB of the group 3D Lab: Development, Differentiation and Degeneration and Dr. Fernando de Castro, of the Cajal Institute (CSIC).
The donation was made public in No. 126 of the AEDEM-COCEMFE bulletin, corresponding to April 2018, where an article about the compound AP-1, new promising drug candidate for the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis, is also collected, with the authorship of the aforementioned Ana Martínez and Fernando de Castro, and Dr. Carmen Gil, also from CIB.
